Course Description:

This training examines how Pagan spiritual perspectives and practices function psychologically and neurologically to support emotional regulation, enhance self-efficacy, and clarify personal needs and desires within a culturally responsive therapeutic framework. Participants will explore how Pagan-informed approaches may reinforce adaptive belief systems and support client empowerment. The training also highlights how many ancient Pagan healing practices parallel and, in some cases, anticipate modern evidence-based approaches in psychotherapy, including principles reflected in contemporary modalities such as somatic therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) and even Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT). Emphasis is placed on bridging these perspectives in a clinically grounded and ethically responsible manner. Participants will develop greater understanding of Pagan and Earth-Based Spiritual Practice (E-BSP) identities, improving culturally responsive care and supporting the integration of spiritual and psychological dimensions within ethical clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

Objective 1-  Describe key cultural and clinical considerations when working with Pagan and Earth-Based Spiritual Practice (E-BSP) clients, including how current mental health practices may impact treatment outcomes. Objective 2-  Identify and evaluate personal bias, ethical considerations, and limitations in clinical work with Pagan populations, and apply strategies to support culturally responsive care. Objective 3-  Explain the role of religious and spiritual identity in mental health treatment, including methods for assessing, obtaining informed consent, and supporting client self-leadership. Objective 4-  Demonstrate understanding of core Pagan belief systems and identity frameworks, and apply culturally informed approaches to assessment and treatment, including recognition of parallels between traditional Pagan healing practices and contemporary evidence-informed psychotherapy models.
